School Council

SPRING 2005 UPDATE

During the spring term school council have been involved in many projects including implementing changes to the school environment, raising money for charity and promoting inclusion within the playground.

Implementing changes to the school

environment

The leadership team consulted school council about the changes to the junior and infant toilets. School council was allocated a budget of 1000 to improve the current toilet facilities. All pupils were consulted and school councillors had the deciding vote. Representatives form school council were chosen to go shopping and buy the paint, mirrors, toilets seats etc. The junior toilets were painted during the spring half term and the infant toilets will be painted during the summer term. Feedback from the junior children has been very positive and the toilets reflect the caring ethos of the school.

Raising money for charity

School councillors sold red noses for comic relief in the playground. They were successful at selling all the red noses.

Promoting inclusion within the playground

School councillors talked to their class about the role of playground friends. Pupils who were interested and felt they had the necessary skills completed an application form. Next candidates were invited to attend an interview. School councillors had elected four representatives to sit on the interview panel. The interviews took place and 25 candidates were successful. The final stage of this process was for school council to draw up a rota for playground friends.
